About Kitaoka Honten

Founded in 1868 in Yoshino, Nara. Fruit liqueurs under the Kagura name since around 2000. Produce comes from growers across Japan and is processed in-house.

Kitaoka Honten — Yoshino

The three-legged crow

Yatagarasu is our trademark — a lucky bird from the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. The legend places it as a guide through the mountains of Yoshino. The same bird appears on the emblem of the Japan Football Association. The fruit-liqueur story lives on this site; the bird is our mark, not a product line.

Food loss

Working with fruit growers across Japan

We prefer fruit with a grower’s name on it, and we take B-grade, surplus, and slightly damaged fruit from farms and cooperatives. Seasonal fruit becomes liqueur instead of waste.

Hand processing

Hand processing fruit for liqueur
In-house laboratory and production checks

Each fruit is processed by hand. Methods change with the recipe: cold press, grating, dice. Joule heating and a pasteurizer sit in the plant. Every lot is micro-tested in our laboratory.
